Understanding Fragility

MISSION

InterHumanIQ exists to support healthcare professionals who, alongside patients, experience the consequences of dysfunction in a highly complex and fragmented system. Doctors, nurses, and specialists in healthcare administration and medical technology rarely have access to a safe, independent space where they can openly examine what they want to change and what solutions they might create. InterHumanIQ provides that space—to think and act genuinely differently, from within the system.

Universal access to healthcare cannot be achieved without universal access for healthcare professionals to education that develops different leadership capabilities.

Through executive leadership coaching and the humanities, informed by the principles of health economics, we cultivate independent critical thinking and professionals’ capacity to develop a deeper understanding of systemic complexity. We do this so that healthcare can regain trust by rediscovering a realistic purpose: truly alleviating each patient’s pain, suffering and fears, at costs that people and society can afford. Reducing professional drama helps make this purpose possible.

Healthcare improves through human agency and partnerships between equals - across hierarchies

More science, technology, bureaucracy or finance will not improve healthcare in isolation. Costs rise, technologies multiply, hierarchies harden, and responsibility becomes fragmented across professions, organisations and financing systems. Yet the consequences of every clinical, managerial and financial decision eventually reach a person living with pain, suffering, uncertainty or fear.

Ultimately, only people can confront short-term thinking and poor judgement, reduce avoidable conflict, rebuild trust and learn to work across professional boundaries.

Healthcare clinical and non-clinical middle managers are the leaders closest to patients, often facing the most intense or conflicting pressures. Here, policy either becomes care or stalls. Yet they often enter leadership roles with little preparation or afterwards support. We work with them over time, while they are in their roles, through structured professional coaching focused on their real context—not only on theory or case studies.

VISION

We envision healthcare that becomes more capable without becoming less human: a system in which professional pressure, status and institutional interests never eclipse patients’ suffering, and medicine makes promises it can ethically and realistically keep.

Distributed executive leadership coaching could equip people at every level of healthcare to listen, question, think more broadly, decide and act responsibly across hierarchies and organisational boundaries. Ongoing professional coaching could help them translate scientific progress into real care that reduces avoidable harm, errors, inequity and financial toxicity—through a better professional life.

This is what partnerships make possible

InterHumanIQ is an independent nonprofit that supports the professional welfare of people already working across healthcare by strengthening their capacity to develop and implement practical solutions to real problems. We avoid adding new layers of bureaucracy or fragmentation to an operational system that is already severely burdened. These are essential conditions to rebuilding a safer, more humane and financially responsible health system from within.

We also seek to open a difficult but necessary social dialogue about the business of medicine and the pressures and forms of toxicity it can create for patients and healthcare workers alike. Companies and their employees already help sustain public healthcare and bear the wider costs of professional conflict, avoidable harm, inefficiency and waste. Their sponsorship is an upstream investment in modifiable leadership behaviours and other conditions that enable healthcare workers to change the public healthcare system of services, from within.

Together with employers and responsible companies as social partners, we provide sponsored access for:

  • healthcare workers, especially middle managers, to ICF-accredited executive leadership coaching, disciplined engagement with the humanities and health-economic reasoning; Investment in human capabilities is as critical as investment in buildings or technology. Healthcare professionals need support to face pressure, complexity and change; speak up; address bullying; exercise authority responsibly; and make better decisions across hierarchies and budgets—so they can serve each patient better.
  • employees, to specialised information that empower them to access and navigate the healthcare system more effectively when needed.

*Partnership funds access, education and evidence. It does not purchase influence over participant selection, educational content or conclusions.

going the extra mile

This work is deeply personal. Alongside their patients and loved ones, the founders have experienced not only the remarkable benefits of contemporary medicine but also its limitations and avoidable harms—rooted in multiple, interconnected factors, including dysfunctional financing mechanisms.

RECOGNITION InterHumanIQ builds on prior programme delivery with measured behavioural outcomes. Our pilot project was selected for presentation at the EUPHA conference, and was recognised by an international healthcare jury at the Romanian Healthcare Awards. We are honoured by the recognition of SRR and SRED, and by the accreditation of the International Coaching Federation.

LEADERSHIP COACHING Unlike short training or conferences, professional coaching is a progressive intervention; the work is done over a longer time in real contexts in real life. This is why coaching is the format with the strongest evidence for changing behaviour rather than knowledge alone. And it is why confidentiality and independence are not ethical decoration — they are the mechanism.

COMPETENCY BASIS Our curriculum is mapped on the competency domains of WHO’s Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for Universal Health Coverage (2022): people-centredness, decision-making, communication, collaboration, and personal conduct. We have adapted it — as the framework itself invites — as continuing support for clinical managers. Coaching education is delivered through a Level 1 programme accredited by the International Coaching Federation.

Partners will receive concise reporting on participation, outcomes, limitations, and use of funds.

Healthcare can become more technologically powerful, more specialised and more expensive without becoming better—for patients and healthcare workers. Investing in people is not an alternative to investing in technology. It is what helps technology, money and expertise become care that genuinely alleviates human pain, suffering and fear.

Kindness is not the opposite of science, and acknowledging limits is the highest form of expertise. Both represent responsible judgement. If your organisation recognises this responsibility too, we would be glad to begin a conversation.
